About your organisation

How registration groups set your audit

When you apply to the NDIS Commission, you choose the registration groups, also called classes of support, for the supports you deliver. Each group is listed by the Commission as needing either a verification audit or a certification audit. A verification audit is a desktop review for lower-risk, lower-complexity supports. A certification audit applies to higher-risk or more complex supports, and it has two stages: a desktop audit, then an onsite audit. If your application includes groups from both pathways, you complete a certification audit. The Commission's registration groups list and its page on the quality audit process are the sources for this tool.

How modules are added

The NDIS Practice Standards are written as modules. The Core Module applies to providers on the certification pathway, and the Verification Module applies to providers delivering lower-risk supports. Supplementary modules are added by the supports you deliver: high intensity daily personal activities, specialist behaviour support, implementing behaviour support plans, early childhood supports, specialist support coordination, specialist disability accommodation and, since 1 July 2026, supported independent living. The Commission publishes a table that links each registration group to its modules, and this tool applies it. You can read more in our guide to registration groups and our comparison of verification and certification audits.

How to read your result

The result has three parts. The first is the likely audit type and the groups that set it. The second is the list of Practice Standards modules, each linked to the Commission's own page, with the reason it appears. The third is a short list of things to know, such as groups where registration is required, or notes the Commission attaches to a group. The panel at the bottom lists every rule the checker used, with its source and the date we last checked it, so you can verify anything you plan to rely on. If you are an individual or partnership registered only for early childhood supports, tick the organisation box, because the Commission applies a modified pathway to that case.

If your result is a verification audit, our page for verification-only providers explains what that audit assesses and the evidence it asks for.

What this tool does not decide

The checker is a guide only. It cannot see your service model, your sites or your participants. When you submit your application, the Commission emails an Initial scope of audit that sets out your audit type, registration groups, service delivery types and relevant Practice Standards. Your auditor then confirms that scope with you. That document, not this page, decides your pathway. If the two differ, follow the Initial scope of audit and ask your auditor or the Commission.

Mandatory registration and 2027

Some supports already need a registered provider, including specialist disability accommodation, specialist behaviour support, plan management, supports to NDIA-managed participants, and, since 1 July 2026, supported independent living and NDIS digital platform services. The Government plans to expand mandatory registration from 1 July 2027 to higher-risk supports such as personal care, but it has not yet published which supports will be covered, so the checker makes no prediction. Our guide to mandatory NDIS registration in 2027 has the timeline and what is still unknown.

This page is general information based on NDIS Commission and government sources at the date shown. It is not legal or professional advice, and the rules can change. Check the NDIS Commission's current requirements and read our disclaimer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this tool tell me which audit I will have?
No. It shows which audit and modules are likely for the registration groups you pick, using the Commission's published tables. The Initial scope of audit document that the Commission emails when you submit your application decides your real audit type and modules.
What if I deliver both lower-risk and higher-risk supports?
The Commission says that if your application includes groups from both pathways, you complete a certification audit. The checker applies the same rule.
Does the checker work out whether I must register?
Only where the Commission says so. It flags groups such as SIL, specialist disability accommodation, specialist behaviour support and plan management, and reminds you that supports to NDIA-managed participants need a registered provider. It does not predict the 2027 expansion, because the list of supports has not been published.
Is anything I tick saved or sent anywhere?
No. The checker runs in your browser. Nothing you select is stored, sent to us or logged by analytics.
